A folk campaign— by the folk and for the folk.
We are a grassroots campaign with the mission of sending direct support from the people of Ohio to the people of Ukraine, via delivery of emergency medical supplies and the hosting of healing cultural support events.
Who we are
Brett Hill (Brother Hill) and Benya Stewart are folk musicians from Ohio who have collaborated with Ukrainian musicians to promote traditional folk music and international cultural solidarity since 2019.
When war broke out after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, they immediately began organizing benefit shows across Ohio.
Through the generosity of Ohioans at 25 fundraising events since March 2022, the campaign has raised over $87,000, and allocated funds to a multitude of Ukrainian initiatives, including:
$1,000 for Musicians Defend Ukraine on 7 June 2023, purchasing boats, motors, life vests, and water pumps for evacuations from Kherson after the detonation of the Khakovka Dam
$12,000 for 770 SICH Tourniquets, purchased for UA First Aid on 2 June 2023
$7,806 for Carpathian Spring Cultural Festival at Creative Residence MC6 in Slavs’ke, Ukraine on 19-21 May, 2023
$4,484 for 191 CAT Tourniquets delivered to Kyiv on 9 January 2023
$19,996 for 515 CAT Tourniquets and 100 Advanced Bleeding Control Kits delivered to Kyiv on 19 October
$20,124 for 245 Advanced Bleeding Control Kits, delivered to Kramatorsk and Kharkiv on 17 May
$1,463 for a 4x4 Hyundai Tuscon, for soldiers of the 93rd Battalion in Bakhmut
$6,150 to Father’s Care Inc to benefit vulnerable orphans from Kyiv
$3,600 to Razom for Ukraine Emergency Response
$1,362 to the Ukrainian Freedom Fund, to purchase boots for soldiers
$6,774 for supply delivery, i.e. airfare, baggage, and transit costs to the frontlines

Our impact
We’ve delivered 1,476 tourniquets and 345 life-saving medical kits directly to the Ukrainian front, and performed for soldiers and volunteers putting their lives at risk defending freedom.
These American-made kits and CAT tourniquets from North American Rescue in Greer, SC are widely recognized as the gold-standard in emergency medical supplies. They are now increasingly difficult to access across Europe, not to mention nearly impossible to find in Ukraine. Thus delivering them from America by hand is one of the safest and most surefire methods to ensure they arrive directly and securely to the battalions who need them.
Advanced Bleed Control Kits include:
1 x C-A-T® Tourniquet
1 x 6 in. NAR Responder ETD (Emergency Trauma Dressing)
1 x Combat Gauze LE, Z-Fold Hemostatic Bandage
1 x NAR Wound Packing Gauze
1 x HyFin® Compact, Vent Twin Pack
2 x Pair, Responder Nitrile Gloves, Lg
1 x Responder Trauma Shears, 7.25 in.
1 x NAR Survival Blanket
Our ongoing focus
Raise resources for the purchase and delivery of crucial medical supplies to where they are needed most
Enable communities in Ohio and abroad to support culture under fire through the hosting of cultural events
Our partners
These Ohio-based organizations, non-profits, restaurants, bars, and artists have rallied for our cause, and without support like theirs, this campaign would not be possible.
Frequently asked questions
-
Brett and Benjamin began collaborating with Ukrainian and Belarusian musicians in 2019, when they helped form an international folk music alliance called Slavalachia. They travelled to Ukraine in January 2020 to meet their Ukrainian counterparts, again from August to September 2021 to write and record their album, and then a third time in June 2022 to deliver medical supplies to their friends at UA First Aid.
The pair feel a distinct love for Ukrainian culture, music, and language which makes them feel a responsibility to use this love as a force of good.
-
Brett and Benya receive the funds, which they use to purchase Advanced Bleeding Control Kits from North American Rescue. They then deliver these kits directly to their personal friends at UA First Aid, based in Kyiv. The kits are then distributed where they are needed most at the time of arrival. Many of these kits end up in the hands of Territorial Defense forces which are stretched thin across a 1200 mile frontline and have sparse medical support.
-
The impact of these medical supply deliveries are hard to overstate. These kinds of medical supplies are in desperately short supply across Europe, especially in Ukraine. Add to it that these American-made medical supplies are absolutely top-of-the-line, and the most desirable medical kits on the market.
Our hand-delivery of these items assures their safe arrival to the hands of people who need them.
